Access II Department consists of Short Term Outpatient, Utilization Management and
the OBRA. The OBRA team provides multi disciplined assessment to individuals entering
or residing in nursing home facilities.
Short Term Outpatient
The short term Outpatient team serves adults who are diagnosed with severe
mental illness, emotional impairment or adjustment difficulties that interfere with
their ability to function in the home, school, community, or work place. These
individuals may also have a substance abuse disorder. A welcoming approach to promote
a therapeutic alliance or engagement with therapy is utilized. The treatment philosophy
is empathetic, optimistic and hopeful so that treatment becomes a tool for recovery.
Outpatient therapy services are typically brief (1-8) sessions.
Utilization Management
Utilization management ensures that individuals served by MCMHA receive the correct
scope, duration and frequency of medically necessary services based on their diagnosis,
severity of illness, and their functioning level. An internal peer review process on
clinician’s documentation in the clinical record, completion of standards, as well as
review on process and procedure are conducted that create adherence to Joint Commission
and Department of Community Health . The utilization management process allows the
right individuals to receive the right amount of services for the right amount of time.
OBRA
OBRA (Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987) is a federally mandated program
that assesses the appropriateness of nursing home stays and appropriate mental health
treatment for an individual who has a diagnosis of mental illness or mental
retardation/developmentally disability.
