The "Clubhouse Model" is a community based recovery program providing services
to adults diagnosed with mental illness and co-occurring disorders. To become a
member an individual must be at least eighteen years old with a primary, validated
DSM-IV Axis I diagnosis of a serious mental illness. Individuals participating at
the Clubhouse are called "Members".
The focus of Clubhouse is to assist members in enhancing their living, working
and social environments. This model of recovery involves creating an atmosphere that
encourages vocational and social development to enhance members ability to lead
personally satisfying and socially productive lives.
The "Clubhouse Model" recognizes first and foremost that Clubhouse membership is a
choice and the program has definite rights of membership. The rights are balanced with
responsibilities. The Clubhouse is "member driven" and members are expected to run their
Clubhouse by taking on essential tasks and activities necessary to support and maintain the
program.
The "work-ordered day" and activities include but are not limited to: skill development,
member outreach and support, monitoring and feedback regarding symptom management/recovery,
community resource development, vocational/educational support and assistance and
social/recreational supports and opportunities. Members accomplish activities of the
"work-ordered day" through participation in Units which include: food service/culinary
arts; clerical/business; member services; janitorial-general store and bistro management.
The Clubhouse offers innovative opportunities for employment. The Evidenced Based
Practices Supported Employment Unit provides all of the vocational, skill development and
employment supports to encourage and support individuals who choose to work in securing
gainful employment. Members who do not choose EBP-Supported Employment have the option of
TEP) Transitional Employment. Transitional employment allows for members to work in limited
time experience i.e. Seasonal and less than part time jobs. The goal is for adults diagnosed
with Serious mental illness to gain solid foundation to experience success in their goals and
desires.
